Welcome to the February Edition of the Crypto Altruists Newsletter!

👋 Hello, Crypto Altruists!

This month, we’re diving into the latest in Web3 funding, decentralized governance, and impact-driven crypto projects. From record-breaking crypto donations to bold new funding experiments, we’re tracking the shifts redefining crypto for good.

Whether you’re here for insights, opportunities, or inspiration, let’s explore how Web3 is driving real-world change. 👇

🌱 Featured Story: How to DAO

In our conversation about how DAOs are reshaping online collaboration and governance, Jan (Puncar) Brezina shared insights from his experience with Gitcoin, MakerDAO, and Bankless DAO. He broke down practical strategies for building sustainable Web3 communities, navigating governance challenges, and driving impact through decentralization.

Jan also talked about the recently launched book he co-wrote with Kevin Owocki, How to DAO—a resource designed to help builders create high-impact decentralized organizations.

🎙️
"I wanted more entrepreneurs to be out there—to have the chance to start their projects, be happy in life, and earn a living... and that was my aha! moment, thinking that blockchain can enable that. Crypto is the right place for people who are entrepreneurial but maybe don't have a chance to get enough funding for their projects or don't have enough connections. We are here to democratize that kind of access—and that's when I started working in DAOs."

🌟 Project Highlight: CCN

Each month, we're excited to highlight projects making a positive impact using Web3 technologies. This February, we are focusing on Climate Coordination Network (CCN), a project dedicated to accelerating blockchain-enabled climate solutions on a global scale to catalyze diverse forms of climate action.

CCN is perhaps best known as the administrator of nine Gitcoin Climate rounds, through which they distributed over $4.2 million in funding to early-stage climate projects.

Recently, it was also announced that CCN will be partnering with Octant for their upcoming Epoch 7—Octant’s first-ever themed funding round, focused on climate solutions. Octant’s model allocates a portion of protocol-generated staking rewards in time-bound cycles, empowering community members to fund public goods projects. For the first time, an entire cycle is dedicated to a single cause—and we love that it’s CLIMATE! 🌱

We had the opportunity to dive deeper into the vision behind it in our recent interview with Jon Ruth of CCN and James Kiernan of Octant!
